Our Rebuilding Project

Our New Buildings (architect's drawing)

Image: What the new Methodist Centre will look like

You can see above what the new Methodist Centre for Carrickfergus was supposed to look like - judge for yourself whether it achieved that goal (see the picture on our home page). It was built on the same site, but fully utilising the original space, to maximise our presence. Fundamentally, the main change was that the hall and the sanctuary swapped places, but this is a slight over-simplification. There are a number of new features in the new buildings which make them a considerable step-up from the old halls, which, after all, were 40 years old, with the sanctuary itself being almost 125 years old. Vehicular access is no longer via West Street, but via the Albert Road, and there are more parking spaces than we had before, although still not a large number. This is one of the unfortunate by-products of wanting to remain on the same site, and wanting to maximise the space of the building.

When did all this happen?

As mentioned elsewhere on this site, the buildings were demolished in November 2008, the site was cleared, the archaeologists were brought in, and then the structure of the new building started to rise from the site. The building was handed over to us just before the Official Opening on 4th September 2010

And the Bill for all this...?

Ah, yes, the money question. To cut to the chase, the build is costing us about £2.3M (yes, that means MILLION), but the good news is that we're well on our way to being debt-free due to the very generous giving of our congregation (and others) and obviously we will have to put a lot of effort into our fundraising from now on. However, we feel that this is what God wants us to do, so we are committed to the project, and we know the funds will come, one way or another.

How can I help?

This is a significant amount that we have to raise, so if anyone feels that they can help us in any way in reducing that amount, please feel free to contact us using the link below. Thank you.
